The Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) is an application protocol for communication between EV charging stations and central management systems (CMS).
The protocol was originally developed by Joury de Reuver and Franc Buve and is now managed by the Open Charge Alliance, a non-profit organization based in the Netherlands.
With OCPP, operators can monitor, control, configure, and update charging stations, as well as handle payments and billing. The protocol is open and free of patents and license fees.
Preparation
To connect your Mennekes OCPP wallbox to our system, you must activate the wallbox's OCPP backend.
Before starting the setup, you must connect your wallbox to the internet and install the latest updates.
Access to the wallbox is required to set up the OCPP backend.
When you add the wallbox in our system, your individual OCPP URL will be displayed in the wallbox menu.

Entering the OCPP URL in the Mennekes
Step 1: Open the Mennekes WebUI
Open a web browser on your laptop and enter the IP address of your Mennekes charging station in the address bar. The Mennekes dashboard will appear.
Step 2: Log in to the Mennekes dashboard
Enter your username and password to log in to the dashboard.
Step 3: Navigate to the "Backend" tab
Click on the "Backend" tab in the menu on the left side of the screen.
Step 4: Change the OCPP URL
Locate the field "WebSockets JSON OCPP URL of the Backend" and enter the new OCPP URL.
Please ensure that the wallbox name does not contain any spaces " " or underscores "_". Otherwise, the control will not function.
Step 5: Save the changes
Click the "Save" button to save your changes.
Step 6: Restart the charging station
Restart the charging station for the changes to take effect.
Wallbox configuration (Backend & Authorization)
How do you correctly set up the "Backend / OCPP" tab? A: Go to the menu and set the values exactly as follows (don't forget to click "Save" at the end):
Websockets Proxy: (leave empty)
WebSockets Keep-Alive-Interval: 0
Send informative StatusNotifications: On
Send StatusNotifications for errors: On
Strategy for StatusNotification state transitions: Occupied while charging
Long polling of configuration keys allowed: On
Forbid charging if queue is full: Off
Backend connection timeout: 60
SSL mode as client: Encrypt only - No authentication
TCP Watchdog Timeout: 10800
Signal backend connection as error: On
Zero reset behavior: On
Send public key of the meter: Off
DataTransfer for tariff and total usage: Off
Meter values sampled data: Energy.Active.Import.Register
Meter Value Sample Interval: 10
Meter values aligned data: Energy.Active.Import.Register
Clock aligned data interval: 0
What settings should you configure under "Authorization"? A: Navigate to the "Authorization" tab and select these options:
Free charging: Off
Allow charging in case of doubt: Off
Vehicle connection timeout: 20-63
Send OCPP Authorize for RemoteStart request: On
Stop transaction mode: Normal
Close actuator only upon authorization: Off
RFID tag case sensitivity: Lowercase
Local Pre Authorize: Off
Local Authorize Offline: Off
Integration
Once you have completed this configuration, it may take up to 10 minutes for your wallbox to register. As soon as the connection to your wallbox is established, it will appear in the dropdown under your OCPP URL.

Now you can configure the remaining wallbox settings and save your wallbox.
⚠️ To receive the first status from the wallbox, a charging session must be started.
Q: The charging session aborts and cannot be restarted.
A: If the charging session is aborted as soon as the wallbox is set to 6A, please increase the minimum charging current in our app to 7A.
Q: What can you do if the connection keeps dropping? A: If the wallbox does not remain stable with the settings above (interval 0), try these two pro tips:
Increase Keep-Alive: Set the
WebSockets Keep-Alive-Intervallto 30 instead of 0. This prevents your router from cutting off the "unused" connection.Static IP: Assign a fixed IP address to the wallbox in the network settings so that it is always reachable at the same address and does not encounter DHCP issues.
Q: I have entered everything, but I cannot establish a connection.
A: Check your internet connection.
If you are using a static IP, check your entries carefully, e.g., check the gateway (same IP as the router)
Deactivate IEEE 802.1x
Ethernet configuration mode: DHCP instead of static
